Saturday night at Delmar Hall in St. Louis I got the opportunity to see Greek Fire live and, of course, my first opportunity to photograph them.

What a great night!

Opening the evening was Native Monster, who were making their live performance debut! Not a bad way to kick things off; playing their very first show at Delmar Hall before Greek Fire took the stage.

Greek Fire frontman Moon Valjean brought so much energy to the stage! From his powerful vocals to his interaction with the crowd, he was constantly moving and giving everyone a great show. You could tell he was having just as much fun as the audience.

One of the coolest moments of the night came when Moon announced that they would be playing brand-new music that wouldn’t be released for quite some time with “Home” and “Blink of an Eye”. He let everyone know that those of us in attendance were the only ones getting to hear them before their official release in the Spring How cool is that?! It definitely made the night feel a little more special knowing we were getting something nobody else had heard yet!

The lighting and visuals were awesome! Bright colors, lasers, and some incredible effects made this show a lot of fun to photograph. The rest of the band (Johnny Venus on drums, Chris Hobbs on guitar, and Brian “Pookie Jones” Smith on bass) brought plenty of energy, too, and together they put on a fantastic performance.

This was Pookie Jones’ first show as a member of the band, and he fit right in like he had been there forever.

There was even a birthday celebration onstage as it was also Hobbs’ birthday, and the band celebrated the occasion by bringing out a cake and singing happy birthday to him. Moon’s mom was also in the audience, which added a nice personal touch to the evening.

There’s something really cool about seeing a hometown band performing for a St. Louis crowd. Greek Fire definitely impressed me, and I’m glad I finally had the chance to see them live and capture some of the night through my lens!
