Sting brought his 3.0 Tour to St. Louis Saturday night, performing at the beautiful Stifel Theatre. At 75, he still sounds fantastic, and it’s hard to believe some of these songs are more than 40 years old.

This tour takes a different approach. Instead of a large backing band, Sting is joined by longtime guitarist Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas. Just three musicians onstage, but you’d never know it from the sound.

One of the biggest reactions of the night came when Sting took a moment to talk about his history with St. Louis. He mentioned that he’d been to the city many times over the years and recalled playing the legendary Mississippi Nights back in the late ’70s. That brought plenty of cheers from the crowd, especially those who remembered the iconic St. Louis music venue.

The evening started with The Police classic “Message in a Bottle” and moved right into “I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart).” From there, Sting worked his way through an impressive mix of Police favorites, solo hits, and a few songs that don’t always make the setlist.

“Englishman in New York,” “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic,” and “Fields of Gold” were among the early highlights. The slower songs, especially “Shape of My Heart” and “When We Dance,” gave Sting a chance to show just how well his voice has held up.

Miller’s guitar work was excellent throughout the evening, while Maas brought plenty of energy behind the drums. The three worked incredibly well together, giving several familiar songs a slightly different feel without losing what made them great in the first place.

The main set wrapped up with “Every Breath You Take,” followed by an encore of “Roxanne” and “Fragile.”

After decades of making music, Sting clearly hasn’t lost his touch. His voice remains one of the most recognizable in music, and Saturday’s performance was another reminder of why.
