In Photos — Interpol’s Strong, Steady Concert at The Factory

Interpol. The post-punk indie rockers from New York alit on St. Louis at The Factory on Tuesday night, nearing the end of their North American summer/fall tour supporting the August album release of This Mirror Weighs a Ton. And what a night it was.
Brooklyn’s indie rockers DIIV (pronounced Dive) opened the night with a wonderful, fluid 45-minute set of their dreamy, fuzzy, hypnotic—with a little noise tossed in—songs. The quartet, who were all dressed as archetypal accountants, featured several songs from their upcoming album, ZIRP!, slated for release on October 30, including the fuzzy lead single “The Fountain” and “Dare Me.” They ended on the moody, yet peppy “Blankenship.”
The first time Interpol came through St. Louis was at a small, posh club in downtown St. Louis in 2002. They dressed in suits then and again (sans ties) for their 95-minute set at The Factory. The band performed amid the bright white strobes and deep red and blue contrasting hues their concerts have become known for. The all-ages crowd was all in as soon as the band hit the first notes of the trippy, atmospheric “This Mirror Weighs a Ton” and then slid into the peppier “C’mere” and their version of a “love” song with “There’s No I in Threesome.” They also featured the pulse-pounding, art-rock “Wings on Fire” and the melancholy “Iron City” from their newest album. During the three-song encore, they added the light, driving “Narc” with soaring vocals to the joy of the young fan who diligently held up a sign asking for it to be performed. No matter your mood, there’s most likely an Interpol song to match it.
Interpol performed “The New” songs, weaving them in with older fan favorites to the crowd’s unmitigated delight.
