A Big Head Todd and the Monsters Concert Makes for a Beautiful World

Every 50-something woman (and several men) at The Pageant on a gorgeous Saturday night in St. Louis were magically transported back into their 20s the minute Big Head Todd and the Monsters hit the stage just after 8 p.m. for their rescheduled January show. For the next 2 hours, fans immersed themselves by dancing, reveling, and singing along to the bluesy, soulful, raspy, sexy sounds this Colorado-based rock band has produced during the past 40 years.
The band has been coming through St. Louis for decades, once upon a time performing at free, outdoor festivals that helped grow their loyal fan base. And all these years later, fans continue to show up. BHTM continues to tour at an impressive pace, landing them in St. Louis what seems like yearly, and they never have any trouble filling the venue. Frontman Todd Park Mohr once again stated that The Pageant is their “favorite venue” to play. Mohr also mentioned he’d recently chipped a tooth, stating, “When you get to be my age, everything’s a hazard.” Pretty sure the entire crowd could easily relate.
Ever the consummate performers, the evening flowed smoothly as the four musicians, who have each honed their musical craft, delivered a stellar night of fan favorites such as “It’s Alright” and “Bittersweet” mixed in with their more recent material such as “My New Number One” and “Thunderbird,” as well as tossing in covers during the encore that included a new-to-them cover of Golden Earring’s “Radar Love.” They also incorporated a request for “Spanish Highway,” which has been making a bit more of an appearance in concerts this year, but still not many.
This fan is always grateful when BHTM comes through town, as it always makes for a lovely night full of smiles and a grooving good time for everyone involved.
