Dogs in a Pile Delivered an Eclectic Experience to St. Louis Fans

— by Carrie Zukoski

Just here in November 2025 to support Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Dogs in a Pile graced St. Louis just five months later, near the end of their spring 2026 Distroid tour to the delight of local jam-band fans.

The lads of Dogs in a Pile wasted no time getting down to business during their 3-hour concert at Delmar Hall in St. Louis on Sunday night. After a brief “How ya feeling, St. Louis?” the fivesome (Jimmy Law, Brian Murray, Jeremy Kaplan, Sam Lucid, and Joe Babick) from Asbury Park, NJ, got down to business by immediately playing the jangly, soulful fan-favorite “Didn’t Ya Know.” They then slid into the easygoing reggae-tinged “Today.” The jams continued throughout two long sets to the delight of the dedicated dog pound fan base, who swayed, hooted, and hollered throughout. The majority of the night transcended into instrumental psychedelic/jazzy jams that bled into one another. Spectacular lighting during the night played just as much of a role as the music during each song, helping to create an immersive experience.

Covers of the night included a rendition of East St. Louis’ Miles Davis’ “So What?” (perhaps as a nod to being in St. Louis), Steely Dan’s “Green Earrings,” and they finished the swirly concert with The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s “Fire.”

With just seven years under their belt, Dogs in a Pile is well-regarded as a jam band to take note of.
