Progressive metal masters Dream Theater will return to St. Louis on Tuesday, October 14. Select tickets do remain for the show, set to be a nearly 3-hour spectacle of progressive metal technical wizardry.

Dream Theater will be performing their new album Parasomnia in its entirety as the first act, then another act of select material spanning their career with Mike Portnoy. Oh yeah, in case you haven’t heard (and unless you have been living under a rock for the last 2 years you already knew this. Buuuut, you never know.) Original drummer and founding member Mike Portnoy returned to the band in 2023 eliciting shock to many fans, with many feeling elation and excitement. To his credit drummer Mike Mangini departed with class and dignity, opening the way for Portnoy to return with no mess.

Portnoy’s return was just in time for the band to work on their 16th album (also their first with Portnoy in 16 years), the thematic concept album Parasomnia regarding issues with sleep from PTSD, Night Terrors, sleep paralysis, and other issues.

The band will perform at The Factory for the first time. This will mark the 6th venue they have performed. Other venues have been Mississippi Nights, The American Theater, an outdoor show at Pop’s in Sauget, The Pageant (where a fan fell off the balcony reaching for a drum head-I can still see that 20 years later clear as day), and the last few times at Stifel Theatre (formerly Peabody Opera House).

Personally, I love The Factory with it’s spaciousness, great sightlines and acoustics, and think this will be a great venue to see them perform.
