What a Night: The Revivalists Exhilarated Fans at The Pageant in St. Louis

Fans filled The Pageant on this super moon Sunday night in St. Louis in great anticipation of The Revivalists’ All in the Family Tour.
And they were not disappointed. From the moment the opener, Cincinnati-based Nolan Taylor, crooned to the soul-filling end of The Revivalists’ final note, the electrified energy never waned for one moment throughout the night.
Fans were still sifting in when Taylor, on his last night with this tour, stepped on stage at 8 p.m. for his 40-minute set full of his autobiographical emo country/alt country tunes. His YouTube channel describes his voice as ranging from “the soft fall of rain to a heavy crack of thunder,” and that’s the best descriptor we could find. Backed by a drummer, keyboardist, bassist, and guitarist, this singer-songwriter’s set was full of slower, yet robust, relatable, sad tunes.
As soon as the eight members of The Revivalists began appearing on stage, the all-ages crowd erupted in gleeful cheers. The band did not tarry and delved immediately into the jangly, jaunty “Stand Up” from their Men Amongst Mountains album (of which 2025 is the tenth anniversary). In fact, they performed all the songs from this memorable album, including their new single, the foot-stomping, rousing “Piece of Me (Cigar Box)” which has been released with the 10th anniversary edition of Men Amongst Mountains.
Lead vocalist/guitarist, David Shaw, worked the room, engaging and greeting fans from the stage to the additional short catwalk to the back of the floor throughout their nearly two-hour set. Having a blast, the members brought the crowd to a new level of frenzy with an intoxicating Rage Against the Machine cover of Bulls on Parade.
The party would not fade away and continued in the hearts of fans long after the final song of “Wish I Knew You” as this ensemble brought their all to their powerful mix of rock, jam-band, and soulful New Orleans-tinged roots-rock to this Midwestern city.
