Disturbed brought The Sickness 25th Anniversary Tour to Enterprise Center in St. Louis on Sunday, March 2nd, with Sevendust and Three Days Grace opening.Ā

Sevendust started the night off and the crowd seemed to really enjoy their set, more than Iāve seen for any opener. Vocalist Lajon Witherspoon mentioned how he remembers playing at Popās when they started out back in the day, which brought many cheers from the crowd.Ā

I really enjoyed watching them. Unfortunately, while performing, their vocals were pretty low which made it hard to sometimes hear over the heavy bass, especially because I know he has a strong voice.Ā Ā

Next up was Three Days Grace. I was really excited to find out Adam Gontier joined the band again and would be co-vocalist with Matt Walst. I listened to Three Days Grace in the early 2000s, but never had the chance to see them live.Ā

Three Days Grace started their set by playing āAnimal I Have Becomeā. Gontier and Walst sang really well together as co-vocalists. Walst has an amazing scream that I wished he would have used more.Ā

Their entire set seemed like a light show that included multiple lasers and strobes, it was really cool to see. While performing āNever Too Lateā, the crowd pulled out their cell phones and turned on the flashlights.Ā

Before playing their last song, āRiotā, the band talked about how they spent the day with the St. Louis Blues hockey team the day before. They had so much fun, even some of them were thinking about moving here. Gontier and Walst then put on Blues jerseys and introduced Blues’ mascot Louie! Louie came running onto the stage with a guitar in his hands, ready to play. He danced and jammed out with them the entire song. Everyone loved it.Ā

During intermission, a large white curtain/screen hung in front of the stage so you couldn’t see what was being set up behind it. On the screen was a QR code that sent you to their website where you could buy merch and even enter to win a signed guitar.Ā

When it was time for Disturbed to start their first set, a video started playing on the screen. It included clips from music videos, tours throughout their history and other behind the scenes footage. Once the video was done, white lights turned on behind the curtain, allowing you to see a silhouette of the band. The screen started to rise, and vocalist David Draiman was wheeled out wearing a muzzle and straight jacket. Once he was released, he was wearing a navy-blue jumpsuit that said D.O.C. on the back.Ā

Disturbed played two sets that evening. The first set was The Sickness album in full in order to celebrate the 25th anniversary. This meant some of the main hit singles from the album would be played early in the set. But this didnāt stop Disturbed from keeping the entire set interesting. Once they started playing the album, they WENT like a marathon, and just took a few breaks for drinks and guitar switches. Even 25 years later, Disturbed still sounds great performing this album. I loved hearing it live, since I used to listen to the album front to back multiple times when it came out in 2000.Ā

The stage was set up with metal stacked frames (reminding me somewhat of scaffolding) that had lights on the front and thin screens set up behind it. Throughout both sets, pyrotechnics were utilized including fireballs, fireworks, and a few times the front of the frames were actually on fire.

Before the last song of the set, āMeaning of Lifeā, the lights went dark and the band went backstage for a few minutes. Draiman then walked out, wearing an orange jumpsuit, chains and a muzzle, and was put in an electric chair. A voice overhead described that he was being sentenced to death by execution. Draiman was asked if he had any last words, and all he did was put up two middle fingers. Fireworks then went off on the chair and he started to shake like he was being electrocuted. The chair then did it a second time, and fake blood started running down the side of his head. He then broke out of the chair, and the rest of the band came out wearing black and white striped jumpsuits.Ā

There was a 20-minute intermission between the first and second sets. The white curtain/screen was brought down again and behind the scenes clips were played from when they were first writing and recording some of their greatest hits songs, including “Ten Thousand Fists”.Ā

The screen was then dropped and Disturbed started playing their second set. This time, it included a lot of their greatest hits like āTen Thousand Fistsā, āBad Manā, and even covers like āLand of Confusionā and āThe Sound of Silenceā. They also played their new single called āI Will Not Breakā. But I was a little disappointed that they didnāt play āStrickenā.Ā

While playing āBad Manā, a very large blow up of the band’s mascot called The Guy (featured on the cover of a lot of their albums) started to rise. The eyes, mouth and chest where it was being ripped apart lit up in orange, which was SO cool. Disturbed had some of the best special effects I have seen in a concert.Ā

Overall, I really enjoyed seeing Disturbed live for the first time after listening to them for so many years. Even 25 years later, they still sound great and put on an entertaining show with all of the special effects. If you get the chance, I definitely recommend getting tickets.Ā
