The Canadian post-hardcore band Silverstein made a stop in St. Louis at The Pageant Saturday as part of their “25 Years of Noise” tour. With them they brought ramped up production to an already beefed-up lineup.

Two video screens behind the risers that flanked the drummer displayed a montage covering their first 25 years. (Has it been that long already?)

No strangers to the Gateway City (This was their 21st show here) the band (Vocalist Shane Told, guitarists Josh Bradford and Paul Marc Rousseau, bassist Billy Hamilton, and drummer Paul Keohler) came out kicking early with “Skin & Bones” and “Confession”, and showed a tightness and cohesiveness that can only come from a band that tours extensively for a quarter of a century.

The crowd by this time was worked up thanks to the opening acts and ready for a wild night. The circle pit in front of the stage showed that to be true. Vocalist Shane Told commented on how the Pageant was a great venue, and also 25 years old (again, really?).

Story of the Year’s vocalists Dan Marsala came out as a guest and Told asked him when they would tour again together.Ā  Dan didn’t have an answer, unfortunately.

After not getting a consensus on who the fans would be rooting for in the Super Bowl (He should have asked about the Battlehawks) Told gave up and went for the obvious: rooting for a Blues win.

The crowd was pumped up the entire night, even during an acoustic song (“My Heroine”) there was crowd surfing going on. Pretty bad ass.

The lighting was decent with smashes of harsh blueish purple, but a good amount of white prevented it from being a dark show. Every album was touched on during the set, which is exactly what a fan would want from a celebration tour.

Split Chain opened the show with an active set, and practically begged for crowd surfers, saying that security looked bored.

Arm’s Length provided the setup slot with a short but vibrant set. They had the crowd surfers that Split chain was begging for.

Thursday rounded out the support bands with a solid set that included “War All the Time”, “Understanding in a Car Crash”, and “Jet Black New Year” in their 10-song set.
