I am still trying to adequately find the words for what I watched at the Fox Theatre on Wednesday night in St. Louis. All I could think after seeing Cirque du Soliel’s Songblazers was “Woah!” The legendary circus’s Theatrical branch joined forces with Universal Music Group Nashville to use an impressive catalog of country music to tell the story of songwriters Dusty and Wyatt , our Songblazers, as they travel along on a locomotive and meet a cast of talented characters.

Teo Spencer as Dusty was a truly impressive main character combining the skills of acting, vocalist, musician, and aerial rope. Steve Ray Ladson as Wyatt has the voice of rich honey which left you captivated during musical numbers. Usually, I just want to skip the musical performances and go straight back to the traditional acrobatics, but Sweet Megg as Mother May and Allora Leonard as Ranch Girl also had breathtaking voices. Vocality was not outshone by physical prowess.

It is impossible to pick a favorite circus performance. The Cyr wheel by Brittany Gee-Moore featuring Ladson singing “Traveler” was beautiful while Spencer’s aerial rope featuring Leonard singing “Cowboy Take Me Away” left me misty-eyed. The aerial body trapeze act by Bettina Bogdan and Krisztina Vellai is probably one of the most intense things I have watched. The sheer strength, training, and trust the must have while becoming a swirling form of blonde hair and forever long legs while that high in the air… worth the cost admission for just that act.

Ultimately, no one should have to talk you into seeing a Cirque du Soliel show. They are always worth the time and money, and you should really treat yourself. Songblazers is at the Fox through Sunday. If you miss your chance, you have one night only on December 20th to “A Magical Cirque Christmas” which is sure to be a family favorite.

Songblazers runs at The Fabulous Fox Theatre until Sunday. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
