Billy Joel, Saint Louis, the number 4. Huh? I’ll explain in a moment. But first what you must know is that Billy Joel and Sting – two of the most respected recording artists in history – have announced a one-night-only performance at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO on Friday, September 27, 2024. The iconic musicians will each perform their most beloved songs from throughout their illustrious careers. The spectacular show promises to be an unforgettable evening of live music.
The two titans of music will each perform a full-set on stage in the outfield at Busch Stadium. Locals will know that the end of September has the potential to have beautiful weather, and a welcome respite from the bitter winters or the oppressive summer heat.
This will be Sting’s first show in Saint Louis since 2019 and his first at any stadium with Busch in its title.
For Billy Joel, it will be old hat as this will be his third time playing in a Saint Louis Stadium outfield. The first time was with Elton John in August of 1994 at Busch Memorial Stadium. While the most recent was a solo show at the current Busch Stadium on September 21 of 2017.
This also satisfies Joel’s run in Saint Louis with years ending in 4. What? Well, you see this will be Joel’s 18th time playing in Saint Louis and the 6th time for a year ending in 4. That’s right, 1/3 of his shows here will have fallen in a year ending in 4, far more than any other year.
In 1974 he played the Kiel Opera House (Now Stifel Theatre). 1984 saw Joel perform at The Arena. 1994 saw Joel perform twice here, first on August 9 at Busch Memorial Stadium for a co-headlining show with Elton John, then two months later for the first live performance at Kiel Center (now Enterprise Center). For some reason he skipped us in 2004, but we will let the two shows in 1994 make up for it. And lastly, he performed in April of 2014 at Scottrade Center (Now Enterprise Center). Now, his performance with Sting in September will continue that string.
Yes, I am a nerd and love finding quirky things like this.
Be sure to catch this show. It is sure to be a show to remember.
