Queens of the Stone Age, led by Josh Homme, riffed and roared through the St. Louis area on “The End is Nero Tour” with a stop at St. Louis Music Park on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023.
Queens, led by Josh Homme, set the bar high for the evening right out of the gate with blistering versions of their 2003 classics “No One Knows” and “First It Giveth” before segueing to “Avon” from their self-titled debut album, which coincidentally celebrated its 25th anniversary just a day before their St. Louis area tour stop.
Light on small talk, “Time & Place” was the first of five songs from their new album In Times New Roman… to work their way into their furious 90-minute set before bouncing around their discography with killer versions of “Make It Wit Chu”, “God is in the Radio” and closing out their main set with their 2005 hit “Little Sister.”
Queens, featuring Troy Van Leeuwen, Dean Fertita, Michael Shuman and thunderous percussion from Jon Theodore, returned to the stage with a four-song encore to close out their evening including “Made to Parade”, a fan request of “In the Fade”, and closing out with two cuts from their beloved album Songs for the Deaf.
This was the band’s first time back in the St. Louis area since 2017 and if turnout was any indication, the STL clearly missed them and hopes run high that they’ll be back, and the sooner the better.
