To call Sydney Sierota a ray of sunshine would be an understatement. The spunky little red-head with the sweet demeanor and beautiful vocals lead her brothers Graham and Noah in a performance in Saint Louis at Delmar Hall that was pure fun on Monday night.

The night was a family affair and began with Band of Silver, a three-piece sibling group from Nashville with Avery Silvernagel on lead vocals and her brothers Alex on guitar and Evan on drums. They were in the Halloween spirit and gave a high-energy performance to kick things off.

Next up, Lostboycrow from L.A., another band of brothers with lead vocalist Chris Blair front and center. They’ve been labeled indie-rock but they have a range that spans well outside the limits of that description. At times, many influences came to mind and talking with some of my fellow concert goers, Fountains of Wayne and even Cabo, surfer vibes of Sammy Hagar popped up. Let’s just say this, Lostboycrow indie-rocked our socks off! They are definitely ones to watch.

But moment we were waiting for came at 8:30 and Echosmith came out with a big Halloween surprise. They were dressed in inflatable costumes and pulled off the first two songs “Gelato” and “Over My Head” flawlessly despite the cumbersome get up.

They had an absolute blast as you can see by the smile on Sydney’s face. I’m sure I’m not the only one who is really glad that nobody tripped. They took off the puffy suits and proceeded to perform with perfection.

For the third song, “Diamonds”, Sydney twirled a pink parasol umbrella and this simple prop made for a visually exciting effect. She worked the stage and handed out smiles like they were candy.

Throughout the evening, there were so many audience engagements and it felt like a a private party rather than a stop on the band’s Hang Around Tour. Sydney was down-right chatty with the audience and made everyone feel like her bestie, if only for a night. She brought a girl named Lucy on stage and made a video with her. She later told me that Lucy had come to the show alone.

All three of them were smiling and playing like this was the best night of their lives and I couldn’t help but wonder, what did their parents do to raise such happy, well-adjusted kids? Seriously!

They played songs old and new including our Echosmith faves “Bright” which Sydney mentioned has been played so many times at weddings. They lyrics are so smart and were written when she was just 15 and had not yet been in a relationship of her own. She talked about how amazing it is to be a part of the soundtrack of our lives. That’s a pretty powerful thing.

I wasn’t expecting her to be a multi-instrumentalist but she played the guitar, the keyboard and even dazzled us on a floor tom while the three of them played drums in unison.

This fun-filled, energized performance was topped with “Cool Kids”, also from their 2013 debut album Yes, we all want to be like the cool kids but feeling like you don’t fit in is never fun. That’s why this song resonates with so many and became a teen anthem at its inception and is still poignant today. For this last number they filled the room with bubbles that were illuminated in rainbow from the stage lights matching their bubbly personalities. She mentioned that they were not in a hurry and after a two-hour set, told us to stick around for pictures and autographs. Don’t mind if we do!

If Echosmith aren’t the cool kids, I don’t know who is. If you ever get a chance to see this band live, you absolutely can’t miss it.
