Music festivals come and go but one of the longest-running rock festivals in the country, Pointfest, doesn’t appear to be going anywhere soon. (Thankfully).

A product of radio station 105.7 The Point that began in 1993, the festival has gone through several changes – sometimes it has been held twice in the same year, others multiple dates on the same weekend or concurrent weekends (as was scheduled last year but the second date was cancelled due to the tragic death of Chris Cornell of Soundgarden just two days before). But whatever the incarnation one thing remains; that there will be a Pointfest to rock out to.

The event has been so popular that if it were ever taken away there may be a riot. (Ok, I may have exaggerated on that) At least a lot of people would be upset.

This year’s version (the 36th Pointfest) falls on May 12 and will be headlined by Alice In Chains and Shinedown. Other acts appearing this year will include Stone Temple Pilots, The Struts, Blue October, Candlebox, The Glorious Sons, and the local boys in Brookroyal.  More acts will be announced as the date draws closer.

Tickets for the event go on sale at 10:00 am Saturday, February 17.
