I Wanna Dance With Somebody!!

I would love to know how many Whitney Houston songs have been streamed since The Bodyguard took The Fabulous Fox by storm.

Tuesday night I had the privilege of being in the crowd as the curtain went up on Alexander Dinelaris’ adaption of the 1992 Oscar nominated Warner Bros. film.

I will be honest, when I saw what was to be the opener for the Broadway season I was a bit skeptical. Whitney Houston, those are big shoes to fill. What I didn’t expect was Deborah Cox!! Wow, does that girl ever have some chops. It was so much more than that though. It was her stage presence and her body language. It was a shining tribute to the past, with the talent of the future.

Former Secret Service agent, Frank Farmer, played by television star Judson Mills, is hired to protect Rachel Marron, played by multi-platinum recording artist Deborah Cox, from an elusive stalker, played by Jorge Paniagua. The perfectly chiseled stalker often seen topless on set, doting a butcher knife, will give you a serious case of the creeps.

The plot further thickens when it is made obvious that Rachel’s seemingly jealous sister, Nicki, played by Jasmin Richardson, has an early connection with Frank when he shows up to watch her set at a local club. This connection later creates a triangle with three of them who spent a lot of time under lock and key due to security issues.

To see how this thriller pans out, you can grab your tickets at the Fabulous Fox box office or at MetroTix.com, or by calling 314-534-1111. The production runs through Sunday.

If you have been reading my column long, you know that I always pick out a member of the cast to watch out for Jasmin Richardson, I see BIG things for you. Your voice is phenomenal as well. This won’t be the last time I type that name across my screen. I see big things for her in the future.

My sister is my theatre companion and we both decided a sing off between those two would be AWESOME! The musical itself was packed with the numbers from original blockbuster hit including So Emotional, One Moment in Time, Saving All My Love, Run to You, I Have Nothing, I Wanna Dance With Somebody , and one of the biggest songs of all time– I Will Always Love You.

So get out and see a classic, reborn!  Adapted to the current media filled age. The Bodyguard is a fun night at the theatre. I give it 4 stars!
