Halestorm and I Prevail brought their co-headlining summer tour to Hollywood Casino Amphitheater in St. Louis on Wednesday, August 7th, with Hollywood Undead and Fit For A King serving as support.
The show kicked off at 6:00pm with Fit For A King. Fit For A King was one of the heavier bands that played that evening, with most of their songs featuring heavy breakdowns and a hard hitting bass that literally rattled your eardrums.
Bassist Ryan OāLeary was basically the band’s hype man with the way he would spin around on stage, jump off the raised platform, and spin his bass around him (multiple times in a row) throughout Fit For A Kingās whole set.
Fit For A King had a lot of energy, which made them a great opener for a weekday night.
Next up was Hollywood Undead. Just by looking at the stage before they came on, I could tell it was going to feel like a party. The stage had palm trees that were lit up, trash cans that looked like they were on fire with fog trailing out, and a cardboard sign on the keyboard that said āHotel Kaliforniaā. When Hollywood Undead went on stage, everyone in the crowd stood up. Only about half were standing for Fit For A King (which still isnāt bad for an opener).
Hollywood Undead started off their set by playing āCalifornia Dreamingā, which fit the theme of their stage set up. Hollywood Undead had a lot of fun on stage. At one point, one of the crew members came on stage and was playing a tambourine while vocalist/guitarist Jorel Decker made him chug a beer. During the song āEverywhere I Goā, beach balls were thrown into the crowd and tossed around during the song. Unfortunately, security took the beach balls away and deflated them as soon as the song was over.
In the middle of the set, Hollywood Undead said they wanted to bring a couple fans on stage. Surprisingly, they picked two little kids (around the age of 5), one of them having a huge Mohawk. Vocalist Danny Murillo asked the little kid with the Mohawk who his favorite member of the band was, and the little kid responded with āitās really goodā. The crowd loved it. The little kids danced on stage while Hollywood Undead performed āCominā In Hotā, and the band had them flipping off the crowd by the end of the song.
They even did a few covers, including āSweet Carolineā by Neil Diamond and āStand Upā (the famous song in the movie Rock Star) where they had each member, and a few people in the crowd, scream āStand Up And Shout!ā
Hollywood Undead sounded great, and I had a lot of fun watching them on stage.
After Hollywood Undead, Halestorm took the stage. It seemed like Halestorm was the most anticipated band by many fans, and I can definitely see why. Lzzy Hale has an amazing voice live, and can really hold notes and screams for a LONG time.
The stage was set up with red draped curtains in the background, and their band logo that hung in front of it that changed colors throughout the whole set. Halestorm really utilized lights during their set, with different shapes, colors, motions, etc.
One of my favorite parts during their set had to be Arejay Haleās drum solo. Not only did his green hair match his drum set, but he was wearing leopard printed pants and jacket. Heās such a talented drummer, and toward the end of his solo, the rest of the band members brought out drums and started drumming along with him. Arejay then went back to his drum set and played using oversized drumsticks.
Halestorm was definitely my favorite band of the night, and probably should have been the closer. They sound SO good live and really know how to rock. It wonāt be my last time seeing them.
To close out the night was I Prevail. The stage was set up with multiple screens that played different videos and effects throughout their set, which was really cool to watch.
Unfortunately, during a lot of their set, it was really hard to hear the vocalists, especially during the choruses. It seemed like the mics needed to be turned up a bit.
I Prevail made sure to play their cover of āBlank Spaceā by Taylor Swift, which made them rise to popularity a little over ten years ago. Vocalist Eric Vanleberghe mentioned that they arenāt huge fans of playing it, but they do it for the crowd because everyone wants to hear it. Which heās not wrong, I think everyone in the amphitheater was singing along with them.
Before playing āBreaking Downā, vocalist Brian Burkheiser talked about his struggle with Eagle Syndrome and how he has had multiple surgeries. He said it really brought him down mentally, and unfortunately had to miss tour dates back in May to recover.
Overall, I really enjoyed this tour. It was a great mix of music ranging from metalcore to rock. Seeing Halestorm was definitely the highlight, with Lzzyās strong vocals that continuously gives you goosebumps. And of course, partying with Hollywood Undead. If you get the chance to see any of these bands, I highly recommend it.
